NNicolás Romano is a popular writer who settled in the province in 1983, and who has received several provincial and national awards, such as 1st place in the Patagonian Contest of the National University of Patagonia, and also had the opportunity to represent us in a Patagonian Anthology edited by
by the National Council for the Development of Patagonia.

Among his main works we find “Pisotón” (which was published by the magazine Impactos de Chile),
“The Encounter”, “Outboard”, “A Little Sun”  and  “El Colorado”, among others.

“The docker does not discover poetry, poetry discovers him.”

This is a story worth sharing; anyone who has had the opportunity to spend time with “Don Nicolás” will know what I mean.

Not only does he excel daily, producing works of international quality, but he also strives to uphold the values of Tierra del Fuego culture throughout all his writings.

Exciting moment of the afternoon. Incredible retelling of a story by Nicolás himself.

A simple, sensitive, and charismatic man. Sensitive in his words, in his way of interpreting life and conveying it through his pen. Not only when it comes to crafting a work, but also when rereading old writings and having the ability to be moved like the first time. That's how his stories are contagious, with his committed voice in every paragraph, and make me feel part of the story. It was difficult not to be moved by an artist of this caliber who gives his all and is honest with himself in everything he writes, in each story to the point of depicting it exactly as he feels it. It's not just a reading or a literary practice; it's a unique experience that only great artists can give us.

The writer says that when he arrived on the island he worked as a stevedore in the port and sometimes he would write stories and tales.
His colleagues, many of them already battered by life and a few years old, were moved to tears by his story. He realized right then and there how important what he did was to them.

Over the years, he developed and loved the profession of writer, almost without realizing it, becoming one of the most important figures in Tierra del Fuego literature and a specialist in poetic prose.

Wherever we take photos, the background repeats itself, like a genetic pattern. As if the books were a sample of their DNA.

After various work experiences, he worked for 18 years at the Polyvalent Art Center in Ushuaia, giving young people the opportunity to learn directly from the writer who wrote the literature textbooks provided by the national education system.

As if Charly García were to teach piano at art school.

Today, these texts continue to travel around the country and the world, reaffirming our cultural identity.

Contribution by Luis Comis:

Nicolás Romano swims in the sea of words, each saying fills with stories that can only be told with the heart out in the open “Everything that is not the womb is out in the open” Jorge Boccanera tells us, and I watch them both talking at the table of one of the old dining rooms that sheltered the stevedores of yesteryear, they inhabit Nico’s literary universe, and the atmosphere is filled with stories and characters, each one with their glass of gin and their solitudes, they dictate their sayings and feelings to him, each one is made in their own voice, he narrates and the world of the south is inaugurated.

Now the writer's humanity takes over the streets, and it's no longer clear whether it's him or one of his characters who jumps out of a new story, greeting us with a raised hand and a smile that always makes us feel at home. That's Nico, all words, heartfelt tenderness in every line of his stories, committed to his companion, because working together also means showing solidarity.

Ultimately, perhaps we are all characters in a story. Nico Romano continues to open and touch us with his words, his words that multiply like sowing words, and he and we will reap, we will strive for his voice, which goes straight to our hearts.
